Acting President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 25 October signed the law on ratification of the International Labour Organization Convention No. 87 on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise.

The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) on 6 October and approved by the Senate on 12 October.

The Convention was adopted in San Francisco on 31st ILO session in 1948 and came into force in 1950. As of 2016, 153 ILO member states have ratified the convention.

The ratification of the Convention will create conditions for Uzbekistan’s further integration in international and regional organisations, as well as improve the mechanisms to protect the interests of workers and employers in accordance with international standards.
