The president of Uzbekistan has signed a law ratifying the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 156 on Equal Treatment and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women Workers: Workers with Family Responsibilities.

The purpose of this convention is to ensure equality of opportunity and treatment for working women and men engaged in employment, allowing those with family responsibilities to enjoy their rights without discrimination, and to combine professional and family responsibilities as harmoniously as possible.

While considering the law on ratification, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan had earlier noted that all the requirements of the convention were already fully implemented in the country’s national legislation.

Currently, 45 out of 187 member states of the ILOO have ratified the convention. These include Norway, Sweden, Spain, France, Japan, South Korea, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
