A police officer has been detained in Bekabad, Tashkent region, after the death of a man brought to a police station in the town. Hayot Shamsutdinov, press secretary of the General prosecutor’s office, confirmed this information to Gazeta.uz.

Earlier, the region’s Interior affairs department said that a man. who initiated a conflict at the Bekabad court due to his brother’s conviction, was taken to the police station with another brother and lost consciousness at the police station. He was takedn to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death, the statement said.

However, the relatives of the deceased told Gazeta.uz that 43-year-old man had died from injuries caused by beating at inside the police station.

Dilshod Yusupvaliev, brother of the deceased Dilmurod Yusupvaliev, who was with him at the police station, said he and his brother had been beaten by about 10 officers.

“They say one [police officer] was detained on my brother’s case. I don’t want only one to be detained and the rest to be covered up, don’t want this to be turned into a game. I ask for measures to be taken against all eight officers [involved in the incident]. I want more attention to be paid to the head of Bekabad police station,” he said.
