President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 8 July met the delegation of the National People’s Congress of China led by chairman of the Standing Committee Zhao Leji, the president’s press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Zhao Leji noted “the highest level of Uzbek-Chinese relations of friendship and all-weather, all-round strategic partnership” achieved in the recent years.

The head of the Chinese parliament reaffirmed China’s support for Uzbekistan’s socio-economic reform program, especially in the fields of poverty reduction, and plans of strategic cooperation in infrastructure development, industrial cooperation, agriculture and green energy.

The sides underscored the significance of the soonest commencement of the construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad.

They also discussed the establishment of branches of Chinese universities in Uzbekistan, expansion of cooperation in vocational education, as well as cultural and tourist exchange.

“They especially noted the necessity for further expansion of inter-parliamentary collaboration, intensification of exchanges between parliamentarians, and elarning the experience of lawmaking to support the ongoing reforms,” the statement said.

Zhao Leji also met the chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva. They discussed expansion of ties between parliamentary committees, exchange of experiences in lawmaking and parliamentary control. It was proposed that ties should be established between kengashes (local deputies' councils) in Uzbekistan’s regions and representatives of China’s provinces.
