The government of Thailand has officially introduced a 60-day visa-free entry for citizens of Uzbekistan from 15 July, Dunyo news agency reported citing Uzbekistan’s consulate general in Bangkok.

Previously, citizens of Uzbekistan could obtain a 15-day tourist visa upon arrival at the airport, which cost $60.

The new policy applies to visitors at all border crossings. Thailand introduced this policy unilaterally to stimulate its economy and may abolish it in the future, the statement says.

According to Thailand Foreign ministry, negotiations are underway to develop an intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa-free entry between Uzbekistan and Thailand.

The plans to introduce visa-free policy for Uzbekistan and 35 other countries were announced by the Thai government in late May.
