President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with newly elected president of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian on 17 July.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev once again “sincerely congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the recent presidential elections and wished him great success in his responsible state position”, the president’s press service said.

During the conversation, heads of states discussed issues related to further development of Uzbek-Iranian relations and expansion of practical cooperation in trade, investment and transportation.

The sides paid special attention to the implementation of agreements previously reached by the leaders of the two countries and emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation projects in energy, chemical industry, agriculture, food production and other areas.

Additionally, current issues of the regional agenda were reviewed, the statement said.

Masoud Pezeshkian was elected president following the death of Iran’s previous president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.

Earlier, in his congratulatory message on the election, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted Uzbekistan’s interest in further “consistent and effective expansion of cooperation” in various fields with Iran, which “possesses great potential and opportunities, and has been dynamically developing in recent years”.
