A strong fire broke out on Monday evening at the Tashkent State Agrarian University campus on the outskirts of the capital. Videos circulated on social media showed high-rise buildings engulfed in flames.

The Emergency Ministry of Uzbekistan said it received the signal about the fire at 20:10. The firefighters arrived on the site at 20:17, the fire was localized at 21:36 and fully extinguished by 22:10, it said.

Major general Abdulla Kuldashev, minister of emergency situations, oversaw the firefighting efforts.

According to the official statement, there were no casualties.

Gazeta.uz correspondents Shokhrukh Khaydarov and Yevgeny Sorochin visited the scene and observed the firefighting process.

The university campus covers a large area of 28 hectares and houses not only the university but also several other organizations, including the Agriculture Ministry, the Forestry Agency, international organizations and a private university.

The fire started on the roof of the Forestry Agency building and spread, possibly through cladding materials, to neighboring structures. In total, three buildings were affected.

Gazeta.uz correspondents counted over 15 firefighting and special machines deployed.

The traffic on the street in front of the university was stopped and police instructed drivers to remove parked cars. Roads leading from the nearby intersection towards the university were also blocked.
