Mosaicvertising campaign for cleaning mosaics on Tashkent’s buildings from advertising banners won awards at two international festivals in September, the press service of the city hokimiyat said.

At the AdBlackSea international festival of creativity in Batumi, Georgia, the campaign won the main prize and a gold medal in the Media nomination in the Use of Print and Outdoor section. A total of 119 projects were shortlisted for the competition.

The campaign also won three gold and three bronze awards at the international Red Jolbors advertising festival in Kazakhstan.

The video about the mosaics of Tashkent took three golds in the categories of PR campaign, ESG projects and Reputation & behavioral communication, along with three bronzes in the categories Media campaign, Print & outdoor and Brand experience & activation.

This success was attributed to the “cooperation between public and private organizations, as well as local enthusiasts who are interested in preservation and promotion of mosaics. In other words, the collaboration was not 'invented', but was bound together by a common mission of love for urban mosaics”, the hokimiyat noted.

It was reported in June that more than 40 advertising panels had been removed from the city in two months, with around 30 more mosaics cleared since 2021. In all, more than 200 banners covering the mosaics were taken down as part of this project.

At the end of March, the government of Uzbekistan added 157 mosaic panels in Tashkent and regions of the country to the National list of monuments of monumental art, 117 of which are located in the capital.

In April, the Department for Digital Development of the Tashkent city hokimiyat launched the “Mosaics of Tashkent” project, which features photos and information about 494 mosaics in the city, including 15 that have been lost.
