Uzbekistan has not received any requests from representatives of Afghanistan’s interim government to cancel concerts and events featuring musical performances at Termez international trade centre on the border, press service of the Foreign Ministry told Gazeta.uz.
Earlier, private Afghan new agency Atlas Press, citing sources, reported that Taliban had sent such a request to the authorities of Uzbekistan, threatening to ban Afghan citizens from visiting the trade center if their demand was not met.
Media reports indicate that music programs are regularly held for visitors at the complex, with nightly concerts performed by Uzbek artists.
Termez international trade centre was opened at the end of August on the border with Afghanistan. The free trade zone accepts US dollars, euros, rubles and yuans as payment.
Citizens of Afghanistan and other states can visit the centre without needing an Uzbekistan visa for up to 15 days.
