Three individuals, including two Russian citizens, were discovered dead on 20 October in a hotel in Tashkent, spokesperson for Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan Hayot Shamsutdinov confirmed to Gazeta.uz.
On Tuesday, the Russian Telegram channel Baza reported that Inessa Papernaya (born 1977), a journalist for the Profile magazine and a freelance contributor to Lenta.ru and other media, and her friend (born 1979) died at the Karaman Palace hotel.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed this information and added that another person — a citizen of Uzbekistan (born 1976) — was also found dead in the bathroom of another room in the hotel.
According to preliminary forensic findings, the three deaths were attributed to poisoning of unknown origin.
An investigation has been launched under paragraph “a” of part 4 of article 186 of the Criminal Code (performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements), and investigative actions are ongoing, the statement said.
Baza reported that the deceased might have been poisoned by gas that entered the ventilation system following the pool cleaning.
