Two unidentified individuals fired shots at a Range Rover with Komil Allamjonov, who recently retired from his post as head of Information policy department at the President’s Administration, inside.

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on 26 October in Qibray district in close proximity to Tashkent, the General Prosecutor’s Office said.

The statement only includes initials of the driver, S. S., but several sources in law enforcement confirmed to Gazeta.uz that Komil Allamjonov was also in the car

Nobody was harmed, according to the statement. The type of firearm used was not specified.

A criminal case was opened under articles 25 and 97 of the Criminal Code — attempted premeditated murder.

Search operations are underway to identify and arrest the suspects, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

“An investigative team consisting of qualified specialists from relevant agencies has been formed, investigative actions are ongoing,” the statement said.

Sources in QIbray told Gazeta.uz that increased police presence was observed in the area in the morning. One resident said that police had asked to review footage from security cameras near his home.

Komil Allamjonov previously served as deputy head of the President’s Administration, director of the Information and Mass Communications Agency and the press secretary to president Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
