Elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament), as well as kengashes (councils) of people’s deputies for regions, cities and districts, have begun in Uzbekistan on 27 October at 8:00 a.m. Voting will continue until 8:00 p.m.
This year, parliamentary elections are being held under a mixed system for the first time in Uzbekistan’s history, combining both majoritarian and proportional electoral systems.
Polling stations opened first at Uzbekistan’s overseas diplomatic missions in Japan and South Korea — at 4:00 a.m. Tashkent time.
The last polling stations to close will be at Uzbekistan’s embassies in the US, scheduled for 5:00 a.m. Tashkent time on Monday.
A total of 57 polling stations will be open in 40 countries.
Gazeta.uz correspondents report that at some stations in Tashkent dozens of people waited outside before the doors opened.
