Uzbekistan’s Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP) secured most seats in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis following Sunday’s elections. The preliminary results of the elections were announced on Monday by the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev.

The citizens of Uzbekistan cast votes both for the deputies in the Legislative Chamber and local (regional, district and city) councils. The parliamentary elections for the first time were held according to a mixed electoral system, combining majoritarian (single-mandate constituency) and proportional (party lists) representation. 75 deputies were elected under each system, totaling 150 seats.

According to preliminary data, UzLiDeP secured 26 seats in the Legislative Chamber from party lists, having received 5,194,041 votes, or 34.75% of the registered voters.

After the announcement of these figures, party representatives at the CEC press center began chanting: “UzLiDeP, UzLiDeP”.

Milliy Tiklanish (National Revival) Democratic Party won 14 seats (2,812,493 votes, 18.82%), People’s Democratic Party 13 seats (2,558,016 votes, 17.11%), Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party took 12 seats (2,420,857 votes, 16.2%) and Ecological Party received 10 seats (1,960,764 votes, 13.12%).

In single-mandate constituencies, UzLiDeP won 38 seats, followed by Milliy Tiklanish with 15 sats, Adolat with 9, PDPU with 7 and Ecological Party with 6 seats.

As a result, UzLiDeP claimed 64 of 150 parliamentary seats, or 42.7%, Milliy Tiklanish took 29 seats (19.3%), Adolat 21 seats (14%)< PDPU 20 seats (13%); and the Ecological Party 16 seats (10.7%).

A total of 74.72% voters participated in the election, or 15,027,527 out of more than 19.9 million.
