Tashkent metro has announced plans to open restrooms and baby changing rooms at nine of its busiest stations.

The first restroom, opened as a trial in 2022 at Chilonzor station, was well-received by passengers, the metro said.

“This facility was warmly welcomed by passengers, and the experiment has proven successful,” it noted.

The announcement came after a video surfaced on social media showing a man urinating at Pakhtakor station — one of the key transfer points in the network.

The metro administration said the incident took place on 27 September. Law enforcement bodies have identified the man, and an investigation is underway. The metro urged passengers to follow behavioral rules and maintain cleanliness in the stations and trains.

The incident sparked discussions and jokes on social media, with many users emphasizing that restrooms should be available at every metro station. Others pointed out that lack of restrooms remained an issue not only in Tashkent but throughout Uzbekistan. Some even thanked the man for drawing attention to the problem.

Plans to install restrooms at other metro stations had been announced back in 2022. As of now, even newly opened stations lack these facilities, despite there being a total of 50 stations across the metro system.
