During the UN Climate Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and UAE-based Masdar on 12 November signed a contract for the construction of a 1,000 MW wind power plant in Uchquduq district of Navoi region, the ministry press service said.

The project is expected to produce 3.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and reducing harmful emissions by 1.4 million tons. The construction phase will create between 600 and 800 jobs.

This is not the first collaboration between Uzbekistan and Masdar. Previous projects include a 500 MW wind power plant in Zarafshan and solar power stations in Karmana (100 MW), Gallaorol (220 MW), Kattakurgan (220 MW), and Sherabad (457 MW), totaling 1,497 MW.

In addition, photovoltaic power plants are being developed in Alat district of Bukhara region (250 MW) and Guzar district of Kashkadarya region (300 MW).

During the COP28 conference in Dubai last year, Uzbekistan and Masdar signed a strategic partnership agreement.
