A group of 17 individuals was detained in Tashkent region, accused of planning to join an international terrorist organization, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
An investigation by the ministry together with the State Security Service revealed that a 17-year old boy “fell under the influence of extremist ideologies online”. Together with his 16 close associates, he formed an “illegal community” and planned to join the Islamic State abroad, the statement said.
A criminal case was initiated under article 244 (calls or organization of mass disturbances and violence) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
