Uzbekistan plans to introduce fines for driving in lanes designated for buses and special vehicles, such as ambulances and fire trucks, press service of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis announced on 30 November.
A responsible parliamentary committee is currently preparing a draft law aimed at improving the efficiency of public transportation. The proposed amendments to Administrative Responsibility Code would establish penalties for violating traffic rules on bus lanes.
Under the proposal, the first violation would incur a fine equal to 3 base calculation units (equivalent of $88), while a repeat offense within one year would result in a fine of 5 BCUs ($146).
Currently, Road Traffic Rules of Uzbekistan prohibit driving or stopping on bus lanes. Vehicles may enter these lanes only at marked points for turning or picking up and dropping off passengers, provided this does not obstruct public transport. However, there has been no penalty for such violations.
In December last year, Tashkent’s Traffic Safety Department said drivers stopping, driving or parking on bus lanes had already started receiving fines on certain streets. The fine for driving on bus lane was set at 0.5 BCUs ($13), and stopping at 2 BCUs ($53) under article 128−6 of Administrative Responsibility Code for violating parking or stopping rules.
In 2023, dedicated public transport lanes stretching a total of 44.8 kilometers were launched in Tashkent.
