Foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and China signed an agreement allowing citizens to stay in both countries without a visa for up to 30 days, Uzbekistan’s foreign minister Bakhtiyor Saidov announced. The document was inked on 1 December during a business forum in Chengdu, China.

“This is another step toward fostering stronger exchanges, promoting trade and enhancing people-to-people ties between our nations,” Saidov stated following his meeting with China’s foreign minister Wang Yi.

The groundwork for easing visa restrictions was laid during president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to China in the spring of 2023.

Since March 2021, Chinese citizens are allowed to enter Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 10 days. However, citizens of Uzbekistan need a visa for travel to China.

The exact date when the visa-free regime will take effect has yet to be announced.
