President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning a group of individuals serving sentences, “who have sincerely repented of their actions and are firmly on the path of correction”, press service of the head of the state announced.
In connection with the 32nd anniversary of the Constitution, a total of 483 individuals serving sentences have been pardoned. Among them 107 will be completely released from their sentences, 275 will be conditionally released ahead of schedule and the punishment for 7 people will be replaced with a more lenient one. Additionally, prison sentences for 94 individuals will be reduced.
The pardoned group includes 25 foreign nationals, 32 women, 5 men over 60, 274 individuals under the age of 30 (including 104 minors) and 6 people involved in activities of banned organizations.
“This action represents the practical embodiment of the humanitarian policies being implemented in our country, as well as the noble qualities of our people, such as generosity, leniency, nobility and mercy,” the statement noted.
Responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to assist the pardoned individuals in reuniting with their families, their social adaptation, engagement in productive work, adopting a healthy lifestyle and taking a dignified place in society.
