Uzbekistan’s ambassador based in Rome Abat Fayzullayev on 19 December presented his credentials to president of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, Dunyo news agency reported.

During the ceremony, president Christodoulides welcomed the newly appointed ambassadors, wishing them success in their missions and expressing hope for their significant contributions to the development of bilateral and multilateral relations.

The head of Cyprus emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Uzbekistan, including within the framework of the European Union.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Cyprus were established on 30 May 1997. Abat Fayzullayev, appointed as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Italy in October 2023, is the first Uzbekistan’s ambassador to be accredited to Cyprus.
