A man and his three children tragically lost their lives to carbon monoxide poisoning in Karshi, the administrative center of Kashkadarya region, the press service of Uzbekistan’s General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Gazeta.uz.
The bodies of the 46-year-old man, along with one boy and two girls, were discovered in their home in the morning of 17 December.
Preliminary reports indicate that carbon monoxide leaked from the flue of a heating boiler installed in the basement, spreading into the general ventilation system.
The city prosecutor’s office is conducting a pre-investigation into the incident.
Earlier it was reported that from January to November, 74 household incidents involving natural gas were recorded in Uzbekistan, resulting in 82 fatalities, including 75 deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. An additional 80 people sustained injuries.
The Hududgazta’minot company advised to install gas and carbon monoxide detectors to prevent similar tragedies.
