Three members of one family — a husband, wife and their young son — died from carbon monoxide poisoning in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region on 19 December, General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan confirmed to Gazeta.uz.

A local resident reported the deaths to law enforcement, identifying the victims as his 35-year-old sister, her 43-year-old husband and their 8-year-old son. An initial investigation was underway.

This tragedy follows a similar incident on 17 December in Karshi, where a man and his three children died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Interestingly, the state gas supply company Hududgazta’minot claimed that the poisoning in Karshi was not caused by carbon monoxide, based on findings from the gas supply company and emergency department.

However, General Prosecutor’s Office clarified that forensic examinations concluded the cause of death was “acute carbon monoxide poisoning”.

Earlier it was reported that from January to November, 74 household incidents involving natural gas were recorded in Uzbekistan, resulting in 82 fatalities, including 75 deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. An additional 80 people sustained injuries.
