President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in an informal meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) heads of states in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 25 December, the president’s press service said.

The event brought together president of Russia Vladimir Putin, president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, president of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, president of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, president of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and president of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow.

The meeting reviewed key outcomes of joint efforts in 2024 and outlined priority tasks for multilateral cooperation in the upcoming year.

The leaders emphasized the importance of adopting joint measures to expand intraregional trade and cooperation, particularly by removing barriers to mutual commerce.

Discussions also focused on the prospects for partnerships in new fields, including the establishment of engineering schools, the development of internet technologies, big data industries, creative economies, green energy, peaceful atomic initiatives and the adoption of digital solutions.

Additionally, the participants addressed pressing regional and international issues, as well as enhancing cooperation within the CIS to tackle shared challenges and threats.
