Heads of governments of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan met in the tri-border area of Batken region (Kyrgyzstan), Fergana region (Uzbekistan) and Sughd region (Tajikistan) to discuss border issues, government of Kyrgyzstan’s press service announced.
The meeting included prime minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, chairperson of the Cabinet of Ministers and head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev and prime minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda.
The discussions were part of earlier agreements reached by the presidents of the three countries, who emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and regional integration.
Prime ministers highlighted significant potential for collaboration in areas such as trade, logistics, water and energy resources, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties, the statement said. They underscored the importance of developing cross-border and interregional cooperation as a key driver of interaction between the nations.
During the meeting, participants noted the completion (in early 2023) of the state border delimitation process between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the exchange of ratification documents for the agreement “On the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border”.
The agreement on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, signed on 4 December 2024, was also discussed, with particular focus on finalizing the description of the remaining sections. Working groups were instructed to prepare the necessary documentation promptly.
Heads of governments expressed confidence that the meeting would “shape the fate of the region for decades, fostering the prosperity of its peoples and nations”.
An upcoming meeting of the heads of states will further promote good-neighborly relations and multifaceted partnerships between the brotherly nations, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan stated. The date of he meeting has not been yet announced.
Uzbekistan’s delegation included energy minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, commander of border troops Salimjon Khusanov, minister of construction and housing Sherzod Hidoyatov, Fergana region hokim (governor) Khayrullo Bozorov and Customs Committee chairperson Akmalkhuja Mavlonov.
