President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences to president of China Xi Jinping over the significant loss of lives and injuries caused by a powerful earthquake in Dingri County, Shigatse City, in southwest China, press secretary of the head of the state Sherzod Asadov announced.
The president “expressed words of sympathy and support to the families and loved ones of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured”, the statement said.
On the morning of 7 January, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 occurred in one of the high-altitude regions of Tibet. More than 125 people died, and almost 190 were injured. Over 1,000 homes were damaged. The tremors were also felt in Nepal, Bhutan and India.
