Uzbekistan plans to deepen and expand cooperation with Canada, Brazil and other key partner countries of the Americas. This is outlined in the draft state program for 2025 published for public discussion.
In particular, the document proposed to develop suggestions for opening a consulate general of Uzbekistan in Canada.
Canada’s diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan were previously handled through its embassy in Moscow. In 2024, this process was transferred to Astana, Kazakhstan. Alan Hamson serves as the Canadian ambassador to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Furqat Sidikov is Uzbekistan’s ambassador to the United States, as well as Brazil and Canada.
The plans outlined in the documents also include organizing new rounds of political consultations with Canada, Brazil and Cuba.
Other proposals include implementing joint projects and hosting various economic events by attracting potential companies from Brazil, Canada, Argentina and other leading countries to Uzbekistan.
Expanding cooperation with Cuba in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceuticals is also under consideration.
The draft suggests establishing cooperation and sharing experiences with relevant ministries and government agencies in Latin American countries with advanced agricultural sectors.
According to the draft program, representatives from cultural and sports fields are expected to participate in various events and festivals held in Uzbekistan and Latin American countries to develop bilateral ties in culture and sports.
