The head of emergency situations department in Pap district of Namangan region was detained in his official vehicle while receiving $160,000, UzA news agency reported.
The sum was in exchange for his promise to use his connections to reallocate 2 hectares of land, originally granted to his five family members in February 2021 for construction of a greenhouse to grow lemons, to another person. He also promised to secure permits to build cottages on the site, the report said.
A criminal case was initiated against the official under paragraph “a” of part 4, article 168 (attempted large-scale fraud) and paragraph “b” of part 2, article 211 (large-scale bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. The investigation is currently underway.
