Bodies of 483 labor migrants who were working on an official basis were repatriated to Uzbekistan from foreign countries in 2024, the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers told journalists at a press conference on 17 January.

The agency representative Nigora Isroilova said the costs of repatriating the bodies were covered by the state budget. Depending on the country, expenses ranged from less than $1,000 (from Russia) to $4,000-$5,000 (from the United Kingdom) and up to $9,000 (from South Korea and Japan).

The agency press service clarified to Gazeta.uz that the majority of bodies — 474 — were transported from Russia. Five were from Turkey, while the remaining four were from South Korea and Kazakhstan.

Besides, with the agency’s assistance, 775 citizens who found themselves in difficult situations, along with 182 individuals who had sustained serious injuries were brought to Uzbekistan last year.
