President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that new residential buildings in Uzbekistan would gradually be transitioned to green energy. He was speaking at a government meeting on 23 January.
In 2025, apartment buildings comprising 120,000 units are planned for construction. Additionally, 15,000 apartments will be built in the new district of New Tashkent, where green energy will be utilized.
To ensure energy stability, a 100 MWh electricity storage system will be installed under a public-private partnership.
In New Tashkent, heating and cooling will be powered by centralized trigeneration, reducing summer electricity consumption 4 times.
All buildings and structures should adhere to enhanced energy efficiency standards under proposed rules. Transportation, lighting infrastructure and charging stations will rely exclusively on green energy.
The president stressed the importance of gradually transitioning new apartment buildings in the regions to green energy.
To incentivize this shift, developers signing contracts to supply energy from solar power stations to new constructions will be exempt from profit tax for such projects. Additionally, their loan interest rates will be reduced by 2%.
As a result, construction costs for developers will decrease, and residents of these buildings will pay lower electricity bills, the president noted.
Furthermore, developers constructing green housing will have significantly greater opportunities to attract funding from international financial sources, the statement added.
At the meeting, it was also highlighted that 135,000 apartment units would have centralized heating, with electric stoves as the primary cooking method instead of gas stoves.
