Ravshan Usmanov, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to the United Kingdom since 2023, was also appointed as the country’s first ambassador to Iceland. On 5 February, he presented his credentials to president of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir, Dunyo news agency reported.

Uzbekistan and Iceland established diplomatic relations on 25 September 1997. President Tómasdóttir welcomed the appointment of Uzbekistan’s ambassador for the first time in the history of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation, with a focus on strengthening ties in trade, economics, culture and tourism. Iceland’s president highlighted the importance of collaboration in energy, high technology and digitalization, fisheries, tourism and environmental protection.

Born in 1978, Ravshan Usmanov was appointed ambassador to London in late 2023. He is a graduate of the University of Birmingham (UK), the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (Uzbekistan) and Tashkent State University of Law. Previously, he served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Malaysia and France (with concurrent accreditation to Italy and Portugal).
