The U.S. once again stated its support for Uzbekistan’s intention to become a member of the WTO, and welcomed the ongoing economic reforms. The countries intend to continue increasing and diversifying trade and investment.
UzTransGaz: Uzbekistan’s underground gas reservoirs are 98% full
In preparation for the fall-winter period, Uzbekistan’s UGSS Gazli and Khojaabad are 98% full. Gas extraction from them has not yet started due to warm weather. Energy Minister has earlier noted that extraction capacity will be increased from 18−20 million to 30 million cubic meters.
Samarkand will host 2023 FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships
For the first time, Samarkand will host the World Rapid & Blitz Championships. From December 26 to 30, the world’s best chess players will compete for the title of world champions in rapid and blitz. FIDE head Arkady Dvorkovich commented on the choice of Uzbekistan as the venue.

Energy Minister claims Uzbekistan has no long-term plans on 'giving up on gas'

Minister calls for increased attention to reservoirs following Kakhovka HPP collapse
Uzbekistan developed emergency action plans for all hydropower plants and reservoirs following the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP in Ukraine, Uzbekistan’s Water Resources Minister Shavkat Khamrayev said. A simulated dam breach exercise was conducted at the Charvak HPP to test the plans.
Tashkent Metro sees 33.5% increase in passenger traffic in 5 months
Between January and May, the Tashkent Metro transported 68.5 million passengers. Compared to the same period last year, passenger traffic increased by 33.5%. May saw the highest passenger traffic with 15.8 million passengers.

Tashkent was ranked 157th out of 173 cities in the Global Liveability Index 2023. The Uzbek capital lost 13 spots compared to last year’s ranking, making it one of the top 10 countries to have deteriorated the most over the past year. Vienna was voted the most livable city in the world.

Uzbekistan opened UZ Euro Trade House in Vilnius (Lithuania). The trade house is expected to intensify practical partnership and substantive dialogue between the business communities of the two countries.
Senate approves amendments to law on state flag
Uzbekistan’s Senate approved amendments to the law on the state flag. The changes expand the use of the national flag and authorize its use by individuals and legal entities representing Uzbekistan at official international events. Restrictions on disrespectful treatment of the flag were added.

Uzbekistan increased gas exports to China in May, despite falling production
Uzbekistan increased its natural gas exports to China in May, with supplies rising to $78.16 million, almost double the amount exported in April. Despite this increase in exports, the country’s gas production continues to fall.
