Uzbekistan has reached an agreement with BYD to produce cars in the B, C and budget segments. The Chinese partners provided the first samples for testing, it was said at a presentation demonstrated to president Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev and BYD president Wang Chuanfu discussed plans for BYD’s involvement in the project to develop green transport in Uzbekistan. This includes establishing a research center, developing technical regulations and standards, and producing BYS’s Blade batteries and electric buses.
President approved the agreement to establish the production of hybrid and electric cars in Uzbekistan jointly with China’s BYD. The plan aims for 50,000 units by 2024 and 500,000 in the future through a complete knock-down (CKD) approach. The expected investments amount to $160 million.
BYD, which in collaboration with Uzavtosanoat initiated the assembly of hybrid and electric vehicles in Uzbekistan, asked the government to limit the “disordered” influx of electric cars. The company cited concerns that imported models are not suitable for the local climate and road conditions.
Presidents of Uzbekistan and China signed a joint statement as an outcome of a summit in Beijing that declared an “all-weather” comprehensive strategic partnership.
