Chess player Afruza Khamdamova won early the World Youth Championship U14 2023 in Italy. She became Uzbekistan’s first ever chess champion. She missed the first round due to a delay in the issuance of a Schengen visa. Despite the technical defeat, she was able to secure nine victories.
For the first time, Samarkand will host the World Rapid & Blitz Championships. From December 26 to 30, the world’s best chess players will compete for the title of world champions in rapid and blitz. FIDE head Arkady Dvorkovich commented on the choice of Uzbekistan as the venue.
Over 100 of the world’s strongest chess players, including representatives of Uzbekistan, competed in the 2023 FIDE Grand Swiss. The Uzbek team significantly improved their results and entered the top 15, aiming to qualify for the Candidates Tournament. Sindarov surpassed the rating of 2700.
