President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and chairperson of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow agreed to increase Turkmen gas exports to Uzbekistan. They also discussed joint gas projects planned for the near future.
Ravshanbek Alimov was appointed Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan. Since 2020, he chaired the Senate’s Committee for International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments and Tourism. Previously, he served as ambassador to Ukraine (also to Moldova) and France (also to Portugal).
Insufficient electricity production in Uzbekistan and imports from Turkmenistan led to limitations of up to 400 MW during peak hours on Sunday, due to a power transmission line accident, says the Energy Ministry.
China replaced Russia as Uzbekistan’s primary trading partner in 2023. Trade with both countries increased, with growing imports to Uzbekistan and decreasing exports. At the same time, trade with neighboring Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan declined.
